Man United 2 Sheffield United 0
Job done but not without another casulaty in Patrice Evra. According to the commentary he was struggling before the terrible tackle on him by Kazim-Richards. Carrick scored very early but we didn’t finish them off in the first half. When Rooney scored early in the 2nd it was virtually game over (great goal that one).
Once the penalty wasn’t given, it really was game over. Sheffield stopped trying at all and United passed it around their back four for the last 15 minutes. It really was a walk in the park.
Speaking of the penalty, Rob Stiles seemed to be on a mission to annoy both managers, no penalty for Warnock’s team, and no sending off for Kazim-Richards, yet gives a booking to Rooney for brushing his chest against a Sheffield United player. Rooney was living on the edge again with his temper.
Ryan Giggs did not look happy being taken off on his 500th league appearance, did he? He wore that same puzzled frown he often gets when United can’t break down a 10-0-0 formation or when playing for Wales. However, he gave a good performance and created the 2nd goal whilst Ronaldo seemed to get riled by the Sheffield defence and wanted to embarrass them by showboating.
Whilst the defensive problems continue, United are still on course for the title. Chelsea will be under great pressure to get 3 points at West Ham and hopefully they will be tired and be made more tired by a desparate West Ham team. I still haven’t forgiven West Ham for 1992 and 1995 yet, so they can finally do us a small favour.
